Course Description

The Simulated Electronic Navigation – Operational (SEN-O) course covers the requirements of the Standards of Training Certificate and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention of 1978. Students are provided a thorough knowledge of the application of the Collision Regulations and the principles to be observed in keeping a navigational watch in a simulated environment while using electronic aids to plot the vessel’s position and progress. Students also gain the skills to take necessary action to avoid collision without putting the vessel at risk. Through knowledge of the bridge resource management basic principles, students also develop leadership and teamwork skills. These competencies help promote safety of life at sea and protection of marine environment.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: EPS- Electronic Positioning System, ROC-MC- Radio Communication, CP2- Chartwork and Pilotage, Level 2, NS1- Navigation Safety, LTW and CDN (NOTE: If the student is enrolled in a cadet training program; the student should have a good foundation and understanding of Chartwork and the Collision Regulations before starting this course)
