Course Description

This course is for mariners wishing to attain certification as a master or captain to operate a small commercial vessel up to 60 gross tons. This course provides mariners with the knowledge and skills to be in charge of a vessel, its crew members, and passengers and/or cargo while the vessel is at sea or in port.

Prerequisites

Listed below are the additional Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security requirements for a Master Limited (under 60 gross tons) certificate:

TCMSS Marine Medical if your vessel carries passengers (must be obtained from TCMSS approved doctor.)
Marine Basic First Aid.
Marine Emergency Duties DVS (formerly MED A1, A2).
ROC-M radio license or ROC-MC depending on area of operation.
SEN Limited if your vessel is equipped with radar.Sea Service - two months sea service performing duties on a ship of similar size tonnage, engaged in voyages that correspond to those of the vessel in respect of which the certificate is sought.
