Course Description

Course Contents:
Overview of dialysis; understanding kidney failure and the principles behind dialysis treatment; types of vascular access; hemodialysis equipment and its functions; procedures and types of therapies involved in treating end-stage renal failure patients; reprocessing and the importance of the water treatment system.

Through a combination of theoretical instruction and virtual observational experiences, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of the dialysis technical assistant. Virtual observation of a dialysis unit will allow students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and reinforce best practices in patient care and equipment management.

Please note: This course runs from January 17th - March 7th, 2026, with final work due during the week of March 9th at the instructor's discretion. All deadline dates will be applied to registered students by faculty through Blackboard once the course begins.
Classes may occur on Saturday or Sunday depending on the instructor's work schedule. Students will be notified each week through their Learning Management System.
